University of Wyoming

Depending upon what your undergraduate degree covered, you may need to take courses to make sure that you're prepared to take the graduate-level coursework required to earn this degree. You'll begin by meeting with a supervising committee to create a plan of study and decide whether you're going to produce a thesis or a paper at the end of your studies. In the thesis track, you'll take 29 hours of courses and then take a thesis research course. In the non-thesis track, you'll take 33 hours of courses and produce a paper. In either option, two-thirds of your courses must be in computer science. You'll take the required research writing course and then choose two major study areas, completing 8 hours of coursework in each area. For both the thesis and non-thesis options, you'll need to successfully present and defend your work before your graduate committee. UW also offers a doctoral degree in computer science.
